Role Description

This is a 100% contract (freelance) role for an HSE Manager – Data Centre

Your main responsibilities include:

• Leading all on-site HSE activities, ensuring compliance with German regulations and company policies
• Developing, implementing, and monitoring site-specific HSE plans, procedures, and risk assessments
• Promoting a positive safety culture and ensuring best practices are followed across all trades and contractors
• Conducting regular site inspections, audits, and safety walks, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions
• Managing and reviewing RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) to ensure safe systems of work
• Acting as the primary point of contact for all HSE-related matters on-site
• Coordinating with subcontractors to ensure consistent HSE standards and compliance across all packages
• Investigating incidents, near misses, and accidents, ensuring proper reporting and implementation of corrective actions
• Delivering site inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing HSE training to all site personnel
• Monitoring compliance with PPE, permit-to-work systems, and safe working practices
• Supporting project teams to ensure programme milestones are achieved without compromising safety
• Collaborating with project management, engineering, and commissioning teams throughout all project stages
• Maintaining accurate HSE documentation, reports, and records in line with project and client requirements

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as an HSE Manager on data centre, pharmaceutical, or other mission-critical projects
• Strong understanding of European and German HSE regulations and construction compliance
• Experience working in high-risk construction environments, particularly M&E or critical infrastructure projects
• Higher Engineering Education
• Demonstrated ability to implement and enforce robust safety management systems on-site
• Experience managing subcontractors and driving HSE performance across multiple workstreams
• Relevant certifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent recognised qualification)
• Strong knowledge of risk assessment processes, method statements, and permit systems
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels on-site
